The Icelandic Association of Behavior Analysis (ICEABA) continues to promote the development of behavior analysis as a basic and applied science in Iceland and introduce the applications of behavior analysis to professionals and students alike.

We are a small and growing association of 152 members. A part of the association’s purpose is to introduce the different behavior analysis master’s and doctoral programs available to Icelandic students. Currently there are two MSc programs in Applied Behavior Analysis, one at Reykjavik University and one at the University of Iceland. The first cohort graduated from Reykjavik University in 2021 and since then we have seen the profession and practice of behavior analysts grow fast in Iceland.

For the past couple of years ICE-ABA has been working on setting up educational, supervision, and continuing education standards for behavior analysts in Iceland. The board and other members of ICE-ABA have worked hard at setting up these standards and will present the final version of the educational, supervision, and continuing educational standards, and a draft of the ethical guidelines at our annual meeting this year.

In May 2023, ICE-ABA was changed into a professional organization. The purpose of the organization will be to oversee the registration of behavior analysts in Iceland, who meet the standards for Icelandic behavior analysts. The new website and registration system will be introduced at our annual meeting this year.

ICE-ABA’s largest event this past year was the ICEABA conference in October. The invited speakers were the well-known Dr. Holly Gover, Dr. Einar Ingvarsson, Dr. Adithyan (Dithu) Rajaraman, Dr. Timothy Vollmer, Dr. Jennifer Austin, and Dr. Kristín Guðmundsdóttir. The conference was attended by approximately 120 participants, our biggest conference to date! We have already started planning our next conference that will be held in October 2025. We are excited to announce that we will be collaborating with the OBM Network when organizing the conference!

In 2023 ICEABA re-elected Berglind Sveinbjörnsdóttir, PhD, BCBA as president and Hanna Steinunn Steingrímsdóttir, PhD as secretary. Herdís I. A. Svansdóttir, MSc, replaced Steinunn Hafsteinsdóttir, MSc, BCBA as treasurer.

The members of ICE-ABA are excited for the future. We aim to continue working on promoting the science of behavior in Iceland and being a professional reference group for scientists and practitioners in the field of behavior analysis.
