Sexual Behavior: Research and Practice Special Interest Group – 2025 SIG Update

Some of you may have wondered why it’s been a while since you heard from the Sexual Behavior: Research and Practice SIG. Back in February of 2023, the SIG leadership, after taking a poll of some members of the SIG’s Facebook group, decided to formally disassociate from ABAI. Therefore, it has not been a special interest group of ABAI since that time. However, I am happy to report that the Sexual Behavior: Research and Practice SIG is back up and running as of 2025! We would like to thank the ABAI administration and Executive Council for accepting the SIG back into the organization. Dr. Frank Cicero volunteered to restart the SIG and serve as President until officer elections are held. Dr. Sorah Stein volunteered to serve as SIG Secretary.

Although our first meeting is being held at the annual convention, which is after the writing of this report, we are already receiving feedback from ABAI members that they are excited for the SIG’s return. Since the reinstatement of the SIG, we have been actively working with the previous leadership on transferring all files and webpages over to the new leadership team. We would like to thank the previous leadership for their hard work and dedication to running the SIG prior to 2023 and in their accomplishments of significantly moving the SIG forward in many areas.

At this time, we are in the process of reconnecting with ABAI, figuring out our short-term goals, and re-establishing a formal SIG membership roster. We are excited to report that we are keeping the current Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/558576094164806 up and running and that we have over 2800 group members! We are also maintaining the current website https://sbrpsig.wordpress.com/ and email address sbrpsig@gmail.com.
