Hong Kong ABA – 2025 Chapter Update

Hong Kong ABA2

By Emily Kwan

Introduction:

The Hong Kong Association for Behavior Analysis (HKABA) made active efforts in reorganizing and revitalizing ourselves in the past year, yet it has been a difficult journey due to the limited number of members who can contribute their time. The economic structure and demographics in Hong Kong have changed considerably in the past year, leading to stress and struggles for many practitioners in the private sector.

In the previous year, a dedicated group of about 10 professionals, consisting of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) and BCBA-Doctoral (BCBA-D) practitioners, has reconvened to discuss the future directions and activities of HKABA. It was the plan to first refresh the website and provide updated information. Unfortunately, we have not been able to move forward with our action plan due to the limited time everyone could contribute to.

Reorganizing and Resuming Activities: In a positive turn of events, a few number of us have taken the initiative to rekindle the chapter’s activities again. These individuals, with their extensive experience and expertise in behavior analysis, have had discussions on the new content of the website and we aimed to have it refreshed by end of June.

Change in Leadership: It is important to note that since the past president of HKABA has stepped down from their position, we have not been able to gather enough members to fill the different positions for the board.

Defining Roles and Responsibilities: Therefore, HKABA is still in the process of filling various roles to support its operations effectively. Identifying suitable individuals who can contribute to the chapter’s objectives is crucial in ensuring a well-rounded team. We are still striving to seek the appropriate members to form the board, and to enhance its organizational structure and streamline its activities of HKABA.

Formulating a Development Plan for 2025: To ensure a clear and focused path forward, HKABA will work on formulating a comprehensive development plan for 2025 again. This plan will outline the chapter’s goals, strategies, and initiatives for the coming year. By setting specific objectives and outlining actionable steps, HKABA aims to maximize its impact on behavior analysis in Hong Kong and further strengthen the profession.

Conclusion: The Hong Kong Association for Behavior Analysis (HKABA) is undergoing a reorganization and revitalization process in the past two years. With the dedication and expertise of our BCBA and BCBA-D professionals, HKABA has resumed meetings to discuss the future directions and activities of the chapter. While acknowledging the resignation of the past president, the chapter is committed to moving forward and embracing new leadership opportunities. Concurrently, efforts are underway to fill various roles within the organization to support its operations effectively. Additionally, a development plan for 2025 is being formulated to guide HKABA’s initiatives and maximize its impact on behavior analysis in Hong Kong. With these positive steps, HKABA is poised to regain its momentum and continue its mission of promoting behavior analysis within the community.
