Standard Celeration Society Special Interest Group – 2025 SIG Update
By SCS Board of Directors
The Standard Celeration Society (SCS) became a special interest group (SIG) of ABAI in 1995. Our mission is to uphold and advance the defining features and conventions of the Standard Celeration Chart. The SCS strives to be a welcoming and enduring forum, supporting the application and dissemination of Standard Celeration Charting across an expanding range of practitioners and stakeholders.
Guiding Values of the Standard Celeration Society
The values of the Standard Celeration Society serve as guiding principles that shape our actions in fulfilling our mission.
- Community: We actively foster a dedicated group that encourages contribution and connection among members, emphasizing respect and generosity in all interactions.
- Authenticity: We pledge to align our decisions with our values, ensuring transparency and welcoming member input.
- Inclusivity: We strive to create an open, inviting, and supportive space that embraces diversity and promotes equity within our community.
- Legacy: We honor the history and contributions of the science and practice of Standard Celeration Charting, building upon the foundations laid by those before us, often described as “standing on the shoulders of giants.”
- Kindness: We are committed to fostering an environment where all members engage with one another with kindness in both verbal and nonverbal interactions.
Together, these values form the foundation of the Standard Celeration Society, guiding our collective efforts to advance our mission and positively contribute to the field.
Organizational Structure
Since 2015, the SCS has operated under an organizational structure composed of a Board of Directors, an Executive Director, and volunteer leadership teams, ensuring the implementation and sustainability of initiatives aligned with our mission.
- The Board of Directors consists of five members serving three-year terms, who provide guidance and decision-making support for the society.
- The Executive Director is responsible for implementing board initiatives, overseeing day-to-day operations, and working closely with vice presidents, associate vice presidents, and volunteers to advance the mission of SCS.
- A five-member Advisory Council provides expertise and professional knowledge to support the society’s work.
- Leadership teams oversee key areas, including finance and operations, programs, membership, scientific and academic relations, communications, and international relations.
Our leadership teams have worked diligently to develop the underlying systems necessary to support the SIG’s structure, ensuring institutional memory and continuity in leadership transitions, a vital component for maintaining productivity within volunteer-driven organizations.
Strategic Initiatives and Membership Growth
The Standard Celeration Society is embarking on a series of priority initiatives designed to strengthen our community and advance the field of Precision Teaching.
Membership Expansion and Benefits
We are actively engaged in a membership recruitment drive to expand our network of committed professionals. Membership in the SCS provides exclusive benefits, including discounted conference rates, access to the historical publication database of the Journal of Precision Teaching and Celeration, and web-based continuing education events.
In 2023, we introduced a values-based dues model, allowing members to select their contribution level based on their financial situation. Suggested membership dues are $130 for Sustaining Members; $70 for Full Members; and $35 for Student Members.
Mentorship Initiative
In alignment with our commitment to learning and collaboration, the SCS continues to expand its mentorship initiative to foster knowledge-sharing within our community. This program connects experienced professionals with those seeking guidance, creating a supportive environment for skill development and career advancement. By tapping into the expertise within the SCS, we aim to nurture the next generation of Precision Teaching practitioners and researchers.
Launching a Continuing Education (CEU) Platform
To further support professional development, the Standard Celeration Society is launching a Continuing Education (CEU) initiative. This platform will offer accessible, high-quality CEU opportunities tailored to Precision Teaching and Standard Celeration Charting. Through web-based courses, live events, and on-demand sessions, users will have the opportunity to earn CEUs while deepening their expertise in standard measurement and behavior analysis.
This initiative aligns with our mission to expand access to precision measurement and provide ongoing educational opportunities for practitioners, educators, and researchers. More details on the CEU platform will be available soon, and we encourage both members and non-members to take advantage of this new professional growth opportunity.
Updated Mission, Vision, and Commitment to Diversity
As part of our ongoing efforts to refine and strengthen our organizational direction, the Standard Celeration Society has updated its mission, vision, and diversity commitment to better reflect our goals and values. These updates reinforce our commitment to expanding access to precision measurement, fostering inclusivity, and advancing the science and practice of Standard Celeration Charting.
